• Texas’ revamped West Region is beginning to take shape with the addition of as many as 20 new high school programs from San Antonio up to Waco. TISCA leadership will host a conference call on Monday to begin hashing out details of the upcoming spring season. Two regional tournaments are already on the schedule, one hosted by San Antonio fixture Alamo Heights, and another by Round Rock. TISCA is making it easy for schools to field teams regardless of composition; Co-ed and consolidated teams are welcome. Schools rumored to join the fray include Georgetown, Waco Midway, Kileen’s Ellison and Harker Heights, Temple, Cedar Park and Cedar Ridge north of Austin, and Bowie, south of the state capital.
  • Ransom Everglades grad Ashleigh Johnson made her Princeton debut a memorable one by setting a school saves record of 19 against No. 4 ranked Cal in an encouraging 7-5 loss on Friday. The Miami native was prominently featured in the press last summer as she made her college choice. Princeton won out over several West Coast powers including Cal, which offered her a scholarship. The Tigers followed that close loss with dominant wins over Villanova and George Washington at the Princeton Invitational.
  • Arroyo Grande of California’s Central Coast won its 100th straight league game on Friday with a 14-5 defeat of Pac 7 rival Righetti. With the win the Eagles girls also won their 10th consecutive league championship and now await their seeding the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoff bracket. The team is currently ranked third in the division. The Steve Allen-led program has not lost a league match since 2003.
  • Pattonville High School outside St. Louis will field a JV team for the first time this spring, adding a new program to Missouri’s growing roster of boys’ teams. In 2012 Christian Brothers College HS brought the total to 23 and will compete at the varsity level in 2014. Pattonville opened a new aquatic facility in December.
