Among the 21 people killed in Friday’s terrorist attack on a Kabul, Afghanistan restaurant was Lexie Kamerman, an all-district water polo player from Latin School in Chicago, and former staffer at the Collegiate Water Polo Association. She was 27.

A graduate of Knox College in Galesburg, IL, Kamerman left her position as Director of Member Services after two years at the CWPA in 2010 to earn a masters degree at the University of Arizona. She became Student Development Specialist at American University in Kabul last June. Her intent was to “help the young women of Afghanistan get an education” as shared in a statement by her family.

Kamerman earned third-team honors on the Girls’ Illpolo Team in 2004 as a senior at the Latin School in Chicago. She then earned multiple honors as a four-year member of Knox’s club teams between 2005 and 2008.

Kamerman’s death comes just a week after another story that has attracted nationwide coverage: Jon Walters, a freshman poloist at the University of Southern California, died of a heart attack on January 9.

The CWPA published a detailed story on Kamerman on the 18th and has shared the extensive coverage her story has attracted via its twitter timeline and facebook page.
