Four more wins for Cal Baptist head coach Rick Rowland will bring his combined total to 500, a milestone reachable by the end of September. Two months later the coach will leave water polo behind after 16 years of leading the Lancers’ men’s program and the women for eight. In late August the university announced that Rowland would step down from men’s water polo after the fall season to focus solely on the school’s swimming and diving programs, which he has also led since their inception.
The school formalized that transition today by posting a requisition for Rowland’s successor.
Under Rowland, the Lancers men played to a 334-174 record and finished the 2011 season ranked 13th in the nation, their highest ever. The coach also led CBU women’s water polo for eight years and left with a 162-106 record in 2007.
A whopping seventeen newcomers have made this season’s Lancers squad, which will play its opener Friday against third-ranked UCLA at UC San Diego’s Triton Tournament.
