Stanford converted a controversial penalty shot with 11 seconds remaining in the NCAA title match on Sunday. The score broke a 6-6 deadlock and UCLA was unable to convert in the final moments leaving the Cardinal with their fifth national championship.
The penalty was awarded after the UCLA bench called for a time out when neither team had possession of the ball, a violation of NCAA water polo rules.
