Three more videos from the prolific Stanford Athletics media team who are journaling the women’s water polo team’s experience as they represent the USA at the Gwangju 2015 World University Games.
“Quarterfinals are Next”
An important and impressive 10-8 win over Hungary propels the Stanford women in to the quarterfinals of the tournament. After a brief statement from Coach John Tanner about the high standards expected of American women’s water polo teams the coaches award each member her diploma of participation. Russia is next for the team after a training session and a coach tour of the Gwangju surroundings.
“Let the Games Begin”
Game one of the tournament against rivals Australia ends in a tie at seven goals a piece. Those disappointing highlights for the Americans appear to be overshadowed by those from the opening ceremonies following the match which leave their mark on the young athletes.
“Anything for Stanford”
Team USA dines with heavily guarded US Ambassador to South Korea Mark Lippert. In March the Stanford grad was assaulted by a South Korean protestor in a knife attack that left the envoy with 80 stitches in his face after two surgeries. His alleged attacker is currently under trial in Seoul. Also, highlights of a tight loss to France, 9-10, and some group bartering at an open air market featuring local seafood and hard-to-handle donuts.
