Coach John Tanner had nothing but praise for his Stanford women after their fifth-place finish at the 2015 World University Games. The Cardinal were selected to represent the USA and performed well against the all-star teams sent by the other participating nations, according to the coach.

When we arrived here nobody had any expectations for us. [Tournament observers] seemed a little disappointed that this single-university team was here representing all of US water polo. And now the buzz around the pool deck is, wow, what an amazing group of players, really establishing Stanford water polo as a global brand.

Stanford defeated Hungary in their final match 9-5 after a four-goal performance by sophomore Jordan Raney.
