The helm of one of the premier boys’ high school jobs in the country has been turned over to Stanford grad and two-time NCAA champion Jeff Nesmith. He took over for Dave Carlson at Southern California’s Los Alamitos High School as reported by Dan Albano today. Nesmith, who formerly coached down the freeway at Marina High School and is still listed as a youth coach at Swim Focus, is well known in the area having starred at Long Beach Wilson prior to his days on the Cardinal squad.

Carlson took over for current Wilson coach Tony Martinho in 1999 and guided the Griffins to a CIF Southern Section Division 2 title in 2004, and was runner up in 2002, 2003 and 2005. His teams have been competitive among California’s elite for over a decade, consistently taking part in the most prestigious tournaments in Northern and Southern California annually.
Nesmith will take over a team that fell 12-10 to Loyola of Los Angeles in the CIF-SS DI quarterfinals in 2012. The Griffins will look to replace US Youth Team member Chandler Jarrels, who committed to Cal last December.
