The DeSmet Jesuit Tournament for boys’ high school teams is solidifying its place as the nation’s most geographically diverse.

Scheduled for April 11 through 13 the St. Louis-based invitational has lined up Illinois powers Fenwick and De LaSalle, Dr. Phillips of Orlando, Florida, and – surprisingly – Knoxville, Tennessee’s Cleveland High School, an ambitious start for a team making its interscholastic debut this spring.

The top five Missouri teams will also participate according to DeSmet Coach Miguel Figueres: defending state champions Parkway West, perennial contendor St. Louis University High (SLUH), DeSmet, Kirkwood, and Mary Institute Country Day School (MICDS).

Figueres has attempted to recruit some of the best teams from Texas without success so far. In 2012, Texas state champion Strake Jesuit had to withdraw from the tournament after a scheduling conflict emerged. The opening round of the tournament will be at Lindbergh High School; Friday and Saturday games will be played at the St. Peter’s Rec-Plex.
