While Texas held its 41st state high school water polo championship tournament the past weekend, the state of Tennessee had its first on Saturday. Knoxville’s Bearden High School held off Cleveland by one goal to secure the trophy. The top-seeded Bulldogs went undefeated in the six-team tournament, winning by comfortable margins in their first two matches against STEM Academy and Sevierville. Cleveland got off to a rough start losing to STEM in the first round, but rebounded to win their next two, including a rematch against STEM, to qualify for the championship game.
