Swift change is likely for the coming week’s CWPA men’s varsity rankings. Just three days after the latest poll indicated a complete reversal of the top four teams, number one USC fell behind early and never recovered in a 11-10 loss at fourth-ranked Stanford. Across the bay in Berkeley, number three UCLA rebounded from a disappointing SoCal Tournament last weekend and pulled away from the second-ranked Bears to win 13-8.
Stanford will host UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, the only match among the top four squads that will take place before next Wednesday’s new rankings are released. With a win the Cardinal could be poised to regain the top spot as are the Bruins after a convincing away win in Berkeley.
