Stanford’s Steffens Repeats as FINA Women’s Player of the Year

Stanford is home again to the world’s best female water polo athlete.

At its gala “Soirée des Etoiles” held on Monday in Doha, Qatar FINA announced its 2014 Athletes of the Year. Maggie Steffens was selected by the aquatics body over Rowie Webster (AUS), Rita Keszthelyi (HUN), Giulia Goriero (ITA), Maria Garcia (ESP), and fellow American Kami Craig. Steffens has now earned the global honor in consecutive years.

Serbia’s Filip Filiopvich took home the award for best men’s water polo athlete of the year.

The Hungarian Swimming Association produced this enthusiastically narrated tribute video.

The Cardinal women will take part in the Lou Tully Memorial Tournament beginning January 16.
