The USA Women’s Junior National team has posted 51 goals in their first two days at the FINA World Championships in Volos, Greece in shutouts versus Mexico and Ukraine. The team is attempting to continue a gold-medal winning streak that has endured since the beginning of the 2014 summer. Womens’ teams from the United States are now simultaneously Olympic, World, Junior World, Youth World, World Cup, World League and Pan Am Champions.
The tournament is being played with new rules (reprinted below) imposed by FINA to test possible changes to be made after the 2016 Olympics. Each team will have only five field players on a 20-25 meter course. The traveling team is comprised of only 11 players total; nine field players and two goalkeepers.
Team USA will next face Spain in their final group-stage match on Wednesday. The Spanish have allowed 13 goals in their first two matches against zero for the US.
