Test rules meant to emphasize fluidity and scoring came under fire by USA Women’s Senior National Water Polo Coach Adam Krikorian. That after a rollicking, high-scoring win by the American Junior National women over Spain was marred by 41 exclusion fouls. The USA prevailed 17-16 to earn a place in the FINA Junior World Championships in Volos, Greece on Wednesday.
Big W for our Jr. Team vs ESP but 41 ejections and playing the backup goalie in field isn’t right. 5 v 5 is not the solution

The tournament is being played with significant changes to long-standing FINA rules: each team is allowed only five field players and 11 athletes total per side. Four American players fouled out of the Spain match forcing goalkeeper Emalia Eichleberger to play the field for the waning moments of the game.

Stanford University coaches weighed in tweeting that two of its athletes playing for the American team had “survived” the game.
