Water Polo Athletes Shine on CIF 100th Anniversary Fall All-Century Team

Water polo athletes account for 33% of those honored by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) in their 100th Anniversary Fall All-Century Team, announced on Wednesday. Only football is represented by more fall athletes among the 100 selections. Among them include some of the most famous names in American water polo including Tony Azevedo, Maureen O’Toole, Terry Schroeder, and Brenda Villa. Selections go as far back as 1958 with the selection of Menlo-Atherton’s Bill Lorton. The most recent is Mater Dei’s McQuin Baron from the class of 2014’s fall season.

Forty Football athletes were selected filling the largest proportion of the list among all fall sports. Selection rules were shared by the CIF on its web site:

Online voting for the Fall All-Century team was September 1-October 31, 2014 at www.cifstate.org. All student-athletes that were nominated appeared on the ballot. The public could vote for as many student-athletes as they desired and as many times as they wanted.

CIF All-Century team nominations were accepted online at www.cifstate.org, from the public, during the 2013-14 school year. All former student-athletes that demonstrated significant athletic contribution in CIF approved high school athletics were eligible to be nominated.
