SWIMMING WORLD — USC remained undefeated, but Arizona State’s home win over UCLA takes precedence this week in Swimming World’s Water Polo Wednesday:

Sophomore Emily Donohue scored first for UCLA, with Arizona State sophomore Gao Ao tying it up at 1-1. The score was 4-1 at the half. Arizona State took the lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter. UCLA had a chance to tie in the last moments of the game, but Arizona State forced a turnover and UCLA could not rebound.

Other highlights include Long Beach State’s 4-0 rampage at the Posada Royale Tournament, UC Davis winning three at their own Aggie Shootout, and another UC San Diego win over conference rival Loyola Marymount.

COLLEGIATE WATER POLO ASSOCIATION — Week seven of the women’s varsity collegiate season is complete, and the Sun Devils of Arizona State have achieved their highest ranking ever according to the CWPA poll released today.

USC, which displaced Stanford University (95 points) for the top position a week ago, leads a Top 10 which saw three changes from the Week 6/February 27 balloting.

Stanford stays at No. 2 for another week, while the No. 3 position exchanges hands with Arizona State University (90 points) climbing past the University of California-Los Angeles (85 points) in the wake of a 7-6 Sun Devils victory versus the Bruins over the weekend.

The University of California (80 points) holds at No. 5 with the University of California-Irvine (74 points) and San Diego State University (71 points) trading the No. 6 and 7 positions.  The University of Hawaii (65 points) and Long Beach State University (59 points) rate at No. 8 and 9, respectively, while San Jose State University (53 points) attains sole possession of the No. 10 berth after tying with Indiana University for the position last week.

Indiana remains atop the CWPA rankings, but Claremont-Mudd-Scripps rises to the top of Division III with a win over Cal Lutheran, and Pomona-Pitzer’s loss to the Regals.
