Jaclyn Weber, the coach who resigned from the boys water polo coaching position at St. Charles East (IL) on Monday did so after enduring “inappropriate behavior displayed by several of the team members…as well as the general lack of respect…” according to a letter issued by Athletic Director Mike Sommerfeld. In the letter, which was obtained by The Kane County Chronicle, Sommerfeld wrote, “I want to be clear; Coach Weber is not to be blamed for this. She has done everything she could to make this work, but there is no workable solution left.”
The school has apparently found a replacement coach and intends to resume operations imminently. The team is scheduled to play again this Saturday at Vernon Hills.
As for the players, school spokesman Jim Blaney was “not certain to what extent the school would investigate and potentially discipline team members regarding the inappropriate behavior that occurred.”
