With particular attention paid to the Fenwick Sectional, where the top two boys’ teams in the state, Lyons and the host Friars, compete, Aaron Brown of Illpolo.com gives a synopsis of all eight sections, boys’ and girls’, in Illinois prep water polo.
As was last year, only one of the two favored boys’ teams will make it to the state tournament in 2013, with Fenwick being slightly favored to emerge from their section, according to Brown. Lyons defeated them earlier this season and remains atop Illpolo.com’s rankings, while a depleted Fenwick squad has fallen to third behind Naperville North.
The competition is thicker among the girls with many keeping an eye of Lincoln-Way Central and their Stanford-bound senior, Danijela Jackovich. But teams such as Mother McCauley, St. Ignatius, and Fenwick are also among the favorites in their sections and will look to carry some momentum in to the state tournament. Brown highlights the Glenbrook North Sectional, where New Trier will have to hold off a charge from rival Loyola.
