Matt Kittle resigned his position as head men’s and women’s water polo coach on Tuesday due to “commitments outside water polo” he told TWp in a phone conversation on Thursday. Kyle Tepe, currently listed as an assistant coach on the men’s water polo staff, has been chosen to serve as interim head coach according Andy Barch, Manager of Sports Information at the college.

Kittle declined to elaborate on the commitments that led to his departure. Prior to his work at Notre Dame he coached at the Cleveland Water Polo Club and is currently listed as the Chief Growth Officer at TeamWork Online, which describes itself as “an online sports and live events job match-making engine.” Kittle joined the firm in 2009 according to his LinkedIn biography.
Tepe will take over on an interim basis but efforts to hire a permanent coach are under way, Barch told TWp in a phone conversation. The job listing has already been posted on the NDC Employment Opportunities web page.
Though reluctant to share details about his other committments, Kittle was enthusiastic about his now-former program, particularly its performance at the Gary Troyer Tournament in Southern California.
“I was happy with the way we performed. We achieved what we wanted. Losing to Claremont [Mudd-Scripps] by three goals is not a bad loss. For the program’s first trip, it went well.”
As for his interim replacement, Tepe, he said, “the program’s in good hands.”
